Hope this email finds you in good spirits. My name is Gene Graham and in addition to being the NYC-Based editor on award-winning comedies Dirty Laundry and The Ski Trip, I am also the director of a feature length documentary called The Godfather of Disco (G.O.D.). I'm happy to report that G.O.D. has been accepted at several film festivals including NewFest. Here is some info about my doc:
Thursday, April 26th The Godfather of Disco had it's World Premier at the 2007 Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival (http://www.mspfilmfest.org/2007). I received their Emerging Filmmaker Award (go figure!). An article in The Pulse of the Twin Cities (http://www.pulsetc.com/article.php?sid=3121) describes G.O.D. as "a mesmerizing overview of the rise and fall of '70s-era dance music in New York City... and offers a dazzling, propulsive look at a vibrant but doomed New York cultural explosion." G.O.D. has been accepted at OutFilm CT, Frameline 31 and Philadelphia International GLFF. There is a website with clips and screening information - www.thegodfatherofdiscodoc.com. Please check it out.
This documentary not only celebrates the foundation of the dance music scene, it contains interviews with some of todays biggest industry players like Louis Vega, Kevin Hedge, Tony Humphries, Louis Benedetti, Barbara Tucker, and Deli G to name a few. There's also a strong gay angle to this piece as Mel is gay (and so am I) and was/is an AIDS activist who continues the fight to find a cure.
We're trying to get the word out to all people who love dance music. If you're down, please help us spread the word and feel free to contact me anytime.
My Best,
